Explore the neighbours of Dubai. Experience arabic culture and history in Ajman’s rulers fort. Haggle in the blue souk in Sharjah. Learn about the bedouin heritage in Sharjah’s Heritage Area.
Sharjah, the emirate famous for art and culture is only a short distance from Dubai located. After 30 min drive you can try your skills in negotiating prices in Sharjah’s biggest souq, called Blue souq or Central souq. You can find everything your heart desires here: gold, silver, perfume, arabic clothes and sunglasses as well as carpets from persia. After you finished shopping we will continue to the first ever built runway in the UAE. The forerunner of British Airways, Imperial Airways built the first airport runway in Sharjah in 1932. In this time Sharjah was the most developed part in the area. It was well known as a trading hub for people from India, Pakistan and Persia. We will walk around the oldest part of the city called “The Heart of Sharjah” or Heritage Area with lots of small museums, art galleries and shops. There is the oldest souq of the country, the souq Al Arsa for some more shopping. A short drive along the coast brings us to Ajman, the smallest of the seven emirates with a beautiful 16km white sandy beach. In 1980’s Ajmans Rulers fort was converted into a Museum which shows the history and culture of the bedouin life in several small exhibitions. After the museum visit we will drive back to Dubai.
